For some, the first symptom was their last.<br \/>\nPeople have been warned about fake diazepam pills after the deaths of two people were linked to the drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Cumbrian authorities including the police and councils have urged people not to buy the drug &#8211; also known as Valium &#8211; which is being sold online, through messaging chats and on the streets.<\/p>\n<p>Cumberland Council said circumstances around the death of two people in West Cumbria involving the fake pills had sparked a multi-agency response across the county.<\/p>\n<p>The council said the fake pills &#8220;often came in blister packs to look more convincing&#8221; and urged anyone with information to contact police.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/480\/cpsprodpb\/b2f4\/live\/eab82d10-160d-11f0-998c-6b1bac7d7605.jpg.webp\" alt=\"Getty Images Diazepam pills being poured into a brown glass bottle. The pills are a white-yellowish colour and are round shaped. \" \/><\/p>\n<p>The council said buying the pills without a prescription by a medical professional meant there were &#8220;no guarantees as to what the drugs bought may actually contain, or the dosage levels&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Diazepam, used to treat anxiety, muscle spasms and seizures, is a Class C drug if someone does not have a prescription for it.<\/p>\n<p>Signs that someone may have overdosed include:<\/p>\n<p>Reduced consciousness<br \/>\nSeizures<br \/>\nDifficulty breathing (long pauses between breaths compared to normal, snoring or raspy breathing)<br \/>\nDeep snoring\/gurgling noises<br \/>\nBlue or pale lips, nail beds, fingers or toes<br \/>\nPale, cold and clammy skin<br \/>\nUnable to wake up<br \/>\nSource: NHS website \/ Cumberland Council<\/p>\n<p>The council said if anyone had taken the fake medication and started to feel unwell, they should contact 999 immediately and follow the instructions given.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Doctors urge patients to stay calm but alert: review your prescriptions, ask questions, and never ignore chest pain, shortness of breath, or leg swelling.
