I snapped a photo, zoomed in, and started searching. The more I looked, the more it resembled a stringy, pale strip rather than anything with segments or features. Under heat, these pieces can shrink, twist, and clump into shapes that look unnervingly like something they\u2019re not. It feels horrifying in the moment, but it isn\u2019t a parasite, and it isn\u2019t dangerous. It\u2019s just beef behaving badly under heat.
