In the past thirty years, there has been a significant shift in the standards of beauty for men. A recent social media trend is suggesting unconventional beauty standards for men. This trend has sparked debate online. Some have accepted it, while others find it offensive.

Here is a list of the eight guys who, in the eyes of the current trend, are “the sexiest” men of the modern day, ranging in age from elder stars like George Clooney to younger stars like Timothée Chalamet.

John F. Kennedy Jr., the 35th President of the United States, was voted People’s Sexiest Man Alive in September 1988. Afterwards, his close friend Steven M. Gillion disclosed that he considered this label a “badge of honor.”

Kennedy wasn’t afraid to flaunt his figure as a 27-year-old law student at New York University at the time. Gillion claimed that he built up his physique primarily at the gym. “He had all the physical attributes of a body builder,” said the pal.

In 1991, Patrick Swayze

Despite not being in the entertainment industry, Kennedy faced competition from celebrities such as Patrick Swayze. In 1991, the actor was crowned the Sexiest Man Alive.

The New Trend: Hot Rodent Boyfriends

The ideals of beauty for males have changed somewhat in modern times. According to a recent social media fad, guys with animal-like facial traits are perceived as more beautiful.

The most recent of these is called “Hot rodent boyfriend.” Men with features resembling rats are referred to by this word. This trend was openly discussed by Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on “Today with Hoda & Jenna” in June 2024.

It reportedly celebrates the “internet boyfriend” aesthetic. Kotb explained, “They’re svelte (with) angular features and bodies,” while Hager added, “Not necessarily conventionally handsome, which makes them even hotter.”

X users have embraced this trend. “Men are either eagle handsome, bear handsome, dog handsome, or reptilian handsome,” claimed one X user. “Stewart little if he was human and hot,” said another, alongside images of actor Mike Faist, who recently starred in the sports film, “Challengers.”

Someone else posted a collage of cartoon mice characters from the movies “Stewart Little” and “Ratatouillie” and wrote, “I’m sorry but they’re the guys from ‘Challengers,” referring to Faist and co-star Josh O’Connor.

Another said that boyfriends who are the “golden retriever” Travis Kelce kind of guys are not the norm anymore. Good-looking rodent boyfriends have taken the place of these males. ” […] We are now entering rat boy summer, if you look rodent like you’re in luck, the girls want you!” the user commented.

Social media users have also strongly linked Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Jeremy Allen White to the image of the handsome rodent partner.

One penned, “Jeremy Allen White is one of the most handsome men I’ve seen.” Another echoed the same sentiment, writing, “why is Jeremy Allen white genuinely the sexiest man i have ever seen?”

British actor Josh O’Connor is another star considered handsome under this trend. An X user posted a video of him and fellow English actor Kit Connor, captioning, “Kit Connor and the sexiest man alive, Josh O’Connor!”
