A Legendary Star

We have lost a true legend in the world of entertainment. Fritz Wepper, the talented German actor, passed away at the age of 82. Known for his remarkable performances, he left an indelible mark on the industry.

One of his most memorable roles was in the Oscar-winning movie “Cabaret” (1972), where he played alongside the iconic Liza Minnelli. This film catapulted him to international fame and showcased his incredible talent.

Fritz Wepper

Wepper’s incredible career spanned several decades, and he is especially remembered for his role as Inspector Harry Klein in the beloved German crime show “Derrick.” He captivated audiences with his portrayal of this character in over 280 episodes, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.

Born in Munich in 1941, Wepper’s passion for acting was ignited at a young age. At just 11 years old, he graced the stage in a production of “Peter Pan.” His talent and dedication were evident even then.

In 1959, Wepper made a significant impact in the anti-war film “Die Brücke,” winning the hearts of both critics and audiences alike. This film, which earned the prestigious Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, showcased his versatility and acting prowess.

However, it was his performance as Fritz Wendel in the movie adaptation of “Cabaret” that solidified his status as a true acting heavyweight. Wepper’s on-screen charisma and presence brought the character to life, leaving an unforgettable impression on viewers.

Fritz Wepper with his family

Offscreen, Wepper cherished his family life. He was married twice and had two daughters from each marriage. His eldest daughter, Sophie, is not only 42 years old but also following in her father’s footsteps as an actress. Together, they worked on the crime show “Mord in bester Gesellschaft,” forging a special bond through their shared passion.

Despite the challenges life threw at him, Wepper found love and happiness with his current wife, Susanne Kellermann. Sadly, his first wife, Angela von Morgen, passed away in 2019. Through it all, Wepper’s dedication to his craft and the support of his family remained unwavering.

Fritz Wepper will be remembered as a true icon of the silver screen, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations. His exceptional talent and remarkable performances will forever remain etched in our hearts.
