Foods to help control uric acid levels

The increase in uric acid in the body leads to ailments such as fever, joint infections, skin cracks, erosion of affected bones, and cellulitis in soft tissue.

In ancient times, this condition was known as the “disease of kings” because it affected those who could afford to consume excessive amounts of alcohol and meat—both foods known for providing high levels of uric acid.

Although this disease is induced by the consumption of certain foods, there are also others that contribute to reducing uric acid levels in the blood. Below we present them:

Berries: Studies indicate that red or blue fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, and cherries contain high levels of proanthocyanidins and anthocyanidins. These are bioflavonoids that help prevent the destruction of collagen and the inflammation caused by uric acid.

–Apples: Rich in malic acid, which neutralizes the production of purines, a substance found in anchovies, onions, beans, and beer, which, when broken down by the body, generates uric acid.

Pinto Beans: An ideal source of folic acid and low in purine. Chickpeas and black beans also contain small amounts of this substance.

–Parsley: It is a natural diuretic that helps reduce the amount of uric acid in the body, due to its quercetin and kaempferol properties. You can add it to your meals and even add it to some of your natural drinks.

–Lime: This natural solvent produces good results against uric acid. To ingest it, simply dissolve the juice of half a lime in a glass of water and drink it twice a day.

Don’t forget that the first symptom of this disease occurs in the big toe, in what is known as Podagra. If you experience any symptoms of this condition, we recommend that you don’t wait and see your doctor immediately. Remember that your health always comes first.
