This was a remarkable event because many Sumatran tiger cubs do not survive when born in captivity. In the series, tiger expert Giles Clark took on the role of their devoted caretaker, providing round-the-clock care and attention. The birth of these cubs was especially significant given that fewer than 350 Sumatran tigers remain in the wild today. The species is critically endangered due to habitat loss and illegal poaching, making every successful birth vital for conservation efforts.

Since their birth, Spot and Stripe have been renamed Hunter and Clarence. Both have grown into healthy, strong adult tigers under expert care. Hunter, despite losing his eyesight because of a genetic condition, continues to thrive with the help of dedicated keepers. Clarence has contributed to the survival of the species by fathering cubs at Taronga Zoo, further supporting the population of this endangered tiger.
