Given that he performed all instruments on this album, mirroring his previous solo efforts, McCartney I and McCartney II, the naming felt intuitive. “I realized, since I played ‘McCartney I’ and ‘McCartney II’ myself, that I had done them in the same style, so this would be ‘McCartney III.’ So then I thought, ‘Okay, now I know what I’m doing.’” This insight highlights his creative process and dedication to a consistent artistic vision for his solo work.
