The union of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes was one of the most famous of all the celebrity marriages in the 2000s. It was a time where interest in high-profile, A-list couplings was keen, and the collective star power of Cruise and Holmes made them a flagship pairing.

Fast forward to 2024 and it’s been many years since the duo saw eye-to-eye. Following the breakdown of their marriage and eventual divorce in 2012, relations between Cruise and Holmes notably soured, and though we can’t know for sure, it’s safe to assume there’s little love lost between them today.

That said, though their marriage would ultimately end in negativity, they do share a daughter, Suri Cruise. And, difficult as it may be to believe, she turned 18 this week!

Yes, there’s nothing to make you feel old quite like celebrity babies growing up. If you’re anything like me, you’ll remember when children of high-profile individuals came into the world, making it all the more shocking when you stumble on an article that presents them as a fully-fledged adult.

That was the case when I saw pictures of Suri Cruise, in any case. The teenager hasn’t been a mainstay in the spotlight, neither has her path to adulthood been documented or publicized like the lives of certain other celebrity children.

Which is probably why fans reacted so strongly to an appearance she made ahead of her 18th birthday. The general consensus is that while she might not share a good relationship with her famous father – reports insist they do not have a close bond – she’s certainly inherited his movie star looks.

Suri was only five years old when her parents went through their divorce, and following the split, she spent little to no time with her father. Speculation insists the pair have an estranged relationship, with Suri having been raised almost exclusively by her mother.

Mission Impossible star Tom admitted in transcripts from a 2012 defamation lawsuit against Bauer Media that he had not seen Suri for three months after he and Holmes called an end to their union.

“Listen, when there is a divorce … things change,” he told lawyers in 2013. “It’s not an ideal scene. It’s not an ideal situation.”

Indeed, a report from Page Six last year cited a source as having told them that Cruise had not seen his daughter in a very long time. Neither, the source claimed, does he play an active role in her life.

As a young child, Suri often found herself photographed at red carpet events with her famous parents, and so fans became accustomed to seeing her. Following Cruise and Holmes’s divorce that obviously changed, and Suri’s exposure in the mainstream media diminished as a result.

That’s not to say Suri has been kept entirely away from the flashing of cameras, and people have often commented over the years to opine just how much she takes after her mother.

Yet with her 18th birthday fast approaching, it was her father’s looks that appeared to be coming to the fore. That’s at least according to fans who couldn’t help but point out that she’s now beginning to look an awful lot like Tom.

Photos of Suri and her mom emerged last year, and it was then that internet denizens had a field day with regards to comparing the teenager’s looks to her father’s.

“Sorry everyone but Suri looks just like her dad! Look at her NOSE, & eyes…it’s unmistakably Tom,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

“That is the female version of Tom Cruise….wow no denying that she is his kid. Shes (sic) a pretty young lady,” another added.

A third said on Instagram: “Looks like Tom now.”

A fourth wrote simply: “She looks like her Dad.”

As per reports, Suri is vying to make a career in the fashion industry, and is “leaning toward” studying fashion in New York.
