Puzzles are solved by people for a wide range of purposes. Sometimes all they’re doing is trying to kill time, and they’re searching for something handy to assist them accomplish it.
That is not to argue that people just solve puzzles out of boredom, though. Some people have an obsession with puzzles, and they will never stop solving them even if they have other things to do.
