Despite a challenging family background, including her parents’ divorce and her stepfather’s strict discipline, Sally found refuge in drama.
Graduating from high school, she entered acting with “Gidget,” which led to her popular role as Sister Bertrille. Her talent shone in films, earning her two Oscars for “Norma Rae” and “Places in the Heart.”
She also excelled in television, winning Emmy awards for “Sybil,” “ER,” and “Brothers & Sisters.”
Sally faced resistance and discouragement in transitioning to the movie industry, but she took matters into her own hands, firing her agent and leaving television.
A proud mother, Sally’s legacy extends to her three sons. Peter, Eli, and Sam have each made their mark in the entertainment industry.
