Country star sets new attendance record for US concerts

On Saturday, George Strait proved why he’s called The King of Country.

The country legend drew a crowd of more than 110,000 people to Kyle Field at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.

According to Texas A&M, 110,905 fans gathered at the stadium to watch Strait perform Saturday. Not only did the singer-songwriter break an attendance record for a ticketed concert – the previous record was held by the Grateful Dead when 107,019 fans attended their 1977 show at Raceway Park in New Jersey – but he also broke an attendance record for Kyle Field.

On October 11, 2014, 110,633 fans were recorded in attendance for the Texas A&M vs. Ole Miss game. Strait beat the 2014 record by more than 200 people.

While an incredibly impressive record, Strait is no stranger to records.

Not only does the country star currently hold 27 No. 1 country albums and 44 No. 1 country singles, but he has the most No. 1 singles of any artist in any genre, the only artist to chart a top 10 hit every year for three decades, and has the most No. 1 albums, gold albums, and platinum albums in the history of country music.

Congratulations, George Strait! This record will be tough to beat.
