One evening at the ranch, I sent my husband a photo of the sunset, cows grazing peacefully, and the calm landscape. His reply caught me off guard: “Look closer at the fence. Zoom in.”

When I did, I noticed two faded initials carved inside a heart—mine and my ex’s. I had completely forgotten about it, a memory from years ago. I tried to explain to my husband that I hadn’t noticed it, that it meant nothing to me now.
