It is always difficult when someone we know and love passes away.
It is a particular problem when they are known by millions, as their passing may touch many lives.
Unfortunately, we have the sad news to tell you that Bill Hayes has passed away at the age of 98. It’s amazing to think that he has been a part of our lives and has been entertaining us for five decades.
When Bill Hayes first played the part of Doug Williams on Days of Our Lives in 1970, fans fell almost instantly in love with him. He went from playing a prisoner with a musical talent to receiving two daytime Emmy awards. Undoubtedly, he will be missed by many.
Along with playing on that show, he also made a number of comebacks over the years. His fans were always happy to see him in any role.
Often, his personal life as well as his on-screen life was intertwined with his wife since 1974, Susan Seaforth Hayes. They were even on the cover of Time magazine at one point, and were a soap opera power couple.
In 2005, they were mentioned in the memoir, Like Sands through the Hourglass.
As Bill made his final appearance on Days of Our Lives in, 2024, viewers were touched. He was sharing the screen with Susan, who played his wife and they talked about the life they had together and how much they loved each other.
Even though he is no longer playing his part on the soap opera, he will always hold a special place in the hearts of his fans. We may be saying goodbye to him, but his legacy will continue to live on.
