Famous actress Shelley Long, 74, best known for playing Diane Chambers on the iconic series “Cheers,” recently appeared in public after staying out of Tinseltown’s spotlight for a long time. Long took her dog for a walk in her neighborhood, Pacific Palisades.

For her Tuesday afternoon outing, she adorned gray sweatpants, a blue turtleneck, a black coat, a pair of sneakers, and spectacles. Photos of the silver-haired star depicted her with serious and forlorn-looking expressions as she strolled along with her hands in her pocket.

The “Night Shift” star’s casual public appearance comes just after she skipped attending the legendary “Cheers” reunion at this year’s Emmy’s. Though the show ran for 11 total seasons before coming to an end, Long quit at the end of the 5th season in 1986.

In 2012, Long explained her departure in an interview where she disclosed, “The ‘Cheers’ writers were the finest in television. But I felt like I was repeating myself; it bothered me a little bit. And I was getting movie offers, which made people think, ‘Oh, she’s so snooty. She thinks she’s going to do movies.’ ”

Barring an abrasive interviewer Long encountered, who took a long pause before answering whether she would miss seeing the star on the show, Long clarified that most people understood her decision. Another significant factor that influenced her exit was her family: “I had a two-year-old baby, and I wanted to spend more time with my family…And I did spend more time with my family. It was a good decision.”

The interview in which she spoke about her departure from “Cheers” came years after a news outlet reported that she was struggling with depression. According to the source, this was onset by the dissolution of her marriage with her ex-husband, Bruce Tyson, who left her after 22 years together.

After meeting on a blind date in 1979, Shelley Long and Tyson married two years later and welcomed their daughter, Juliana.
